Fastest way to make a hellevator on large map?

I did one digging by hand and OMG it took FOREVER. Is there a faster way to do it?

Depending on your gear you can use mining potions, bombs, dynamite, or even rockets to mine. In terms of raw speed, without any concern for cost or precision, a rocket launcher loaded with the highest-tier rockets is the best way to dig a hellevator.

LOL this is my first game and I have never made it tohard mode. I am trying to build a few hellevators to make it easier to contain crimson/hallow when I finally beat Wll of Flesh.

technically to do it legit would be the mining mount but thats endgame farm stuff

the easiest way was to use a map editor like tedit but its not updated for 1.3 yet

Bomb will do the work well since they are available plenty on map - from chests and pots. Heck you can even fish for bombs - called Bomb Fish - too if needed.
