How to avoid negative modifier?

My platinum pickaxe was given sluggish modifier, -21% speed. It's sad to see my platinum pickaxe being noticeably slower than my tin pickaxe. It wasn't fast nor easy to get that 12 platinum bars and it was the best material I had.

Any tips to avoid negative modifier? I don't mind getting no modifier, but negative modifier are a sabotage, making the item performs below their advertised stats, it's not a funny joke when hard-to-get materials are involved and there's nothing to learn there (to do better in next attempt).

Nope its pure 100% luck. later on you will kill the goblin invasion and find a goblin tinker underground which wil allow you to reforge (change its modifier) in a cost (which will be random aswell) so you can spend 50 gold and get nothing good but this is how modifier works

That is sad. For items found or dropped by mobs, it's fine to have negative modifier like in classic Diablo. But for items that you craft yourself, the lowest quality should be no modifier not negative modifiers. Or at least there has to be a way to ensure you get standard quality items, maybe an equip or something, esp early on when you can't reforge yet.

If you right click when crafting an item it will have no modifier.

I don't think this will be useful for you but I was looking for this on google (This discussion was one of the results) and found the answer, maybe it will be useful for someone else.
