Map reset to empty?

I open terraria after weeks and go on my worlds and I see my maps are all blank as if I never explored anything yet...I had so much of the map done on my first world now its gone randomly

Yeah, I just had the same thing happen to me after about 12 hours of playing.

Might be a part of the new Update. Just make a new world and experience 1.3.

Then might be a problem with you getting the update wrong? It happens sometimes, just try and refresh you game cache.

(NOTE: If you go on a world with a new character that you explored on a different character, they won't have the same map.)

yea I was using my main character that i always used in that world and still reset

Edit: Somehow the extenstion on the map file located in the character folder in Documents\My Games\Terraria\Players was changed to ..map instead of .map. Possibly related to fiddling with cloud saving. I deleted the new .map for my world and renamed the old file to XXXXX.map and my minimap is back to normal.

I got this bug when I finally saved my character to the cloud system, same thing happens when offing the save cloud...so don't press it again.

Oh I remember saving my main character to cloud before entering the world..so should I not do anything or press remove from cloud?

When I saved my 1.3 character and world to the cloud, my map went missing. I removed them both but the map still didn't return

You had something different; this thread is about the mini map resetting.
I had this happen twice on me (multiple worlds each time). I think it is triggered by updates, as the timing was consistent. It is a minor-major inconvenience, and I have lost track of a small mining shelter deep in my first world. But think of the fun I would have hunting it down!... or will it be frustration?...

Edit: and I have heard so many bad things about the cloud for terraria. 'Cloud not restoring files' 'Cloud corrupting files or whatnot' 'Cloud crashing the game every 20 minutes' (I actually had the later, but that part might be fixed now)

So I tried looking for the file and went to the same place but my player file is completely empty. I then looked in my other, endgame profile and that wasn't empty. Any suggestions?
