"Lost Connection" trying to join through Steam
Is there anything fancy that must be done when trying to host/play through Steam to allow connections?

Although this is a huge necro, this still may help someone in the future.

When you are being presenting with the "Lost Connection" while trying to join through steam, it means your Terraria is outdated, reinstalling, updating, or verifying the integrity of game cache will fix this bug.

For me it happend right after 1.3.0.5. The day before me and a friend were play as everything was fine. Then the next day I tryed to join the server but it was stuch on "Joining-----" or said "lost connection". And both of us got the same update but im the one with the problem.

How would you verify the integrity of your cache? Im having the same issue sometimes and my friend is too. I could just try joining another day and that usually works, but then I can't play terraria multiplayer.

I have the same problem. Some days ago, no any problems with connection(connection by ip). Now, no any connections - nor by IP, nor through steam.
Right click Terraria in your Librar --> Click the Properties tab --> Local Files --> Verify Integrity of Game Cache

I'm afraid there is No way to retrieve those files. A common error is when one is running the client modded, VANILLA AND MODDED ARE NOT COMPATIBLE to check this, look down in the bottom right hand/left hand corner when you boot terraria, it will tell you if you are running tmodloader. I suggest you get the non tmodloader terraria.exe from a friend and just rename the tmodloader one in steamapps/common/terraria to something else, when you want to use modded client rename the tmodloader back to terraria.exe and the vanilla to something else. And Vice Versa.

Although you are a huge negro, your mom says no dinner tonight.

Can you explain how to get the non tmodloader terraria.exe from a friend, as I accidentally overrid the vanilla terraria.exe and don't know how to go back to vanilla from there

Hi. I tried to do what everyone recommended but it still won't work. I can join a online server but I can't join my friends. It just says "Lost connection" As soon as I enter the password. Please help me with this issue. Thank you for your time

As there *isn't* a necro rule in steam this will continue to see comments as people find it useful or topical. I recommend unsubscribing. If you feel it needs moderation (and there is definitely at least one comment that could use some moderation if late to the party) you can report it as well. Hope this helps.
