Alright. I figured there'd be more information on the Wiki if multiplayer had drastically changed and couldn't find any concrete proof that the multiplayer had been restructured. Might look into the server stuff if that's the case. Thanks!
It will just be made alot easier and faster to connect with your steam-friend-o's, given you can already host steamworks-integrated games without any issues.
Yeah, sorry, i thought just pressing "Host&Play" opens up a peer-to-peer session for others to just drop in, but appearently, you're creating a server, everytime you're doing it.
A bit unnecessary, if you ask me, if you just wanna host for a couple of hours tops and considering, that player-count is usually low when playing with friends, but meh, peer-to-peer terraria might be a thing next week.
It's explained in the very first thread pinned on this board...how can people miss that?
Also, I just remembered something they added to multiplayer. A teleport to player potion. You use the potion, click a player on the map, and you go there! I tried not to look at too many spoilers, but watching the trailer and a few spoilers showed stuff.
It's still a thing. The latest CoD, for example, only uses p2p.
I think it's not bad for up to 4-5 players, but if you do it like CoD:AW and not offer the option to start dedicated servers yourself, you've messed up.
A big plus for p2p, is, that players aren't dependant on a server (or it's host...).
I guess we'll have a more clear answer tommorow...someone just asked Cenx directly on the official forums, if she can share any more detailed infos about steam integration and how it works and she responds to questions almost every day lately.
are you creating and hosting the server or are you renting a server from steam?
the first one would still be called peer-to-peer, but not pure peer-to-peer, because you have someone to check the information.
but i could be wrong
