Regarding the momentum build up for speed boots, I mainly hop and then fire my grappling hook at the ground ahead and then let go of my hook to get the speed boost. It takes a while to get used to and is more difficult to do on bumpy ground but it's great to use. If wings are equipped though this trick is sort of obsolete as flying is faster than running with Frostspark Boots after hitting flight max speed. Peculiarly, moving diagonally during the ascent or descent glide also forces your character to move faster horizontally due to the system of the game.
(I play nearly exclusively single-player, minus the times I help build areas that my younger brother needs to have.)
boots + masterninja gear
since unless its expert you only get 5 slots
i mean it would go hand in hand
dashing and the speed boost comes naturally
also maybe be able to walk sideways on walls
just a food for though
gravity potions/gravity orbs (expert)
and flying saucers
still it would be nice to combine the 2 as to not take up 2 individual slots
boots + master ninja gear
or at the very least boots + climbing gear
I beg to differ. I love my wings because they give me way more mobility than any mount, making them invaluable for boss fights. Come to think of it, that may be why you always seem to undervalue dodging, lol.
IMO the functions of the MNG are cool, but ultimately useless. Once you have wings or even a grappling hook the wall climbing becomes obsolete, while the dash and occasional invulnerability aren't worth the accessory slot they take up (and in the case of the invulnerability, its unreliability makes it outclassed by other defensive items). It'd be okay with me if they added a combination with another, more useful accessory, since it's basically harmless, but honestly I'd rather they just let it fall into obscurity where it belongs.
The dash is also outclassed by both the Shield of Cthulhu and the Solar Flare armor's set bonus, both of which are much better items.
Actually I'd love a mount before Golem that, instead of flying or jumping, can "orbit" around walls like a Spider Ball.

There's an easy way to avoid that scenario. Just... don't let yourself get backed into a corner?
I'll admit I haven't used SoC very much, but it seems that the temporary immunity it provides while dashing is way more valuable than any utility in dashing through enemies and taking damage.
Lol. I should clarify while we're on the subject that I don't think everyone should go full damage all the time and leave themselves as glass cannons, depending only on their dodging ability to survive, but I do think that damage is much more valuable than defense late game. Mainly due to the nature of defense as a flat reduction, which makes it fall off in usefulness as enemies get more powerful, while most other stats including damage are multiplicative. Other defensive bonuses, like HP regen and % damage reduction, on the other hand, are way better than defense and still worth using. And it isn't as if defense isn't nice when you can get it along with other bonuses, which is why Ironskin potions and Celestial Shell/Stone are great, but it just isn't worth sacrificing DPS for.
No, this isn't a completely random event, I've died seven times in a row to those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ leeches, they and SoC ruin me.
