Which ammunition should i use?

Crystal bullet or ichor bullet, im just starting in hardmode so please dont reccomend clhorophyte, lumite, etc.

Ichor bullets are good simply because the ichor debuff, but the Crystal bullets will do more damage with the shards, esspecially against crowds. I woud say use both, maybe consider hitting tougher enemies with ichor then switching to crystal so you have the advantage of the debuff and the crystal shards.

Switching is indeed best. You can keep one type of weapon to apply Ichor and then switch to the one with Crystal ammo.

If you use fast-firing weapons, Ichor is almost a necessity.

Don't bother to use any expensive ones for trash mobs, keep them for bosses. Musket balls/ silver bullets are good enough for normal hardmode mosters. If you get a wizard, then buy crystal ball. Combining 3 or 4 full (999) stacks will make you endless pouch to save money on ammo.

craft the endless musket pouch/quiver
ichor or cursed inferno enemies with other weapons/books also crystal shards
never worry about ammo again
ichor bullets are alright but you can just use the ever replenishing mana you have instead to spray them first then attack
