The flamelash is better for long range, and for going around corners since you can control it with your mouse. The demon scythe absolutely destroys at close range, especially vs enemies that take knockback and worms. It is great right up through most of hardmode, you won't even need a melee weapon, since the knockback and initial slow movement will keep player-sized foes such as armored skeletons from being able to touch you.
Demon Scythe will be way better for boss fights as well as most hardmode enemies, due to its piercing pseudo-AOE properties. Flamelash is mainly just useful for hitting enemies around corners.
Ok, thank you.
The Flamelash is mediocre. Ne real use for it other than scouting around corners or plinking away at enemies when you're low on hp.
