They are about the same when it comes to tools and armor, though the latter of each is usually ever so slightly better.
This goes for Hardmode metals too, Cobalt or Palladium, Mythril or Orichalcum, and Adamantite or Titanium.
Contrary from Pre-Hardmode metals, the armor made from Hardmode metals are actually very different. The former of each group have set bonuses that simply give very good stats which is good for high dps. The latter of each gives a special ability, Palladium being regen, Orichalcum being a flower petal that hits enemies when you do, and Titanium being a garenteed dodge when you do damage.
Not really. Some ores are better than others, but in general they've been designed to be equivalent so the difference isn't huge.
1. Use silt, slush or fossil blocks on an extractionator (found in underground chests). For every block that you extractionate you have a chance of obtaining any of the gems or easymode ores in the game. You can also obtain money, amber or some other things that way.
2. Open crates that you find by fishing. Before hardmode, they will have a chance of containing any of the easymode ores (wooden crates only) or metal bars (every crate type). But if opened in hardmode, they will also have the chance of containing any of the hardmode ores in addition to the easymode ones.
The Extractinator produces Hardmode ore now?
EDIT: Crates do produce ores though, so you still don't need multiple worlds. I checked in my hardmode world. I have some orichalcum ore in spite of having mythril in my world. And I only have one hardmode world, so it didn't come from anywhere else.
