Can I change my character's name? (+Map issues)
Is there any possible way for me to change the name of a character, even through changing document names in the game files or anything like that? On an unrelated note, my map controls don't work at all, they are set so Tab opens and closes the minimap, and M opens and closes the full screen map. But none of them work. I've checked the map controls, they are set properly, but they just do not work. Any help?

This is a inventory editing site but you don't need to inventory edit on it!
You can just change the name and place it back in the players folder!
I don't encourage inventory editing but this is the only way I know how to change a name
Link looks like the sketchiest sketchy that ever sketched.

what you can do is take all the items out of your piggy bank, safe and inv then move them over to your new char/chests
But my guy has lots of health and such, plus mana, and I really don't want to have to find a bunch of hearts again.

It would be possible to make a new character and just cheat in some HP/MP items. As long as you delete you other one, it's kind of a substitute for a Rename feature.

I wonder what would happen if you simply renamed a character file, though... after all, if the file name itself is the character's name, it would make no sense for that character's name to also be inside the file. You could make backups and then try it.

I've done it. Nothing happens, so it's clearly stored in the character file.

I tried to do something of this sort with a map a while back. Nothing happened and the map reverted back to what it was before I changed it. I assume this is the same with characters.

I've used this before, and I know the link looks horrible, but it works.

I've tried it before. I think the name is somewhere in the file, though I'm not sure how you open a player save. All mine are text files, and they don't exactly make sense if they are the same as wehn I last read them. The file I recieved when renaming my character using the website linked here still had the original name of the character, but my character in game was indeed renamed. It is most likely something inside the file, and the name of the file is the name that was originall inside it.

Hmm. Sounds superfluous to have the name inside again when it's right there in the file name, but I have nowhere near enough knowledge on save files to tell if they had a good reason or not for doing it this way.

In any case, good to know you can't rename character that way.

Really, I wonder why there isn't an in-game option for doing it.

Maybe the save files might get messed up if it has to rename the files, like it might make a new save and not overwrite the other one or something like that? I'm not sure but I think it could be possible, although that would only be if it used the filenames and not something in the file itself...so I don't think there'd be a problem with that at all.
the only thing bound to your character is name, default appearance (the familiar clothes), and max life/mana. Just make a new character.

Here's what you do, I've done it before:
Make a new character, and enter a world (any world.)
Transfer the map files from your old one to your new one.
Transfer the items from your old one to your new one.
Inv Edit items for HP and Mana or use a free items server.

Bam. Different name/appearance and you still have all your stuff and your maps so you don't need to re-explore everything.

I don't see how the new map is nessecary, I can just go onto the world I originally used with the new character. But I don't like inv editing for health and mana cause that involves having inv editing in the first place. I'd much rather there just be a renaming feature. By the way, speaking of maps, I can't get my ingame map or minimap to open, at all. All my map controls are set to default so M for map and Tab for mini map, so none of my map controls seem to be working properly.

If the keyboard functions for the map don't work, there are map icons next to the health bar in the menu. Each one displays a different form of map. It's not as handy as the keyboard, but you can use it.

Free items server. I'm sure that there is one somewhere, you could probably just google it or something.

If I ever found the need to cheat in some items, I'd use an all-items map. No inventory editing, no connecting to others... you're basically just downloading the items.

This is why I keep duplicates of stuff just in case. No need for servers.
