Skipping skeletron.
I can crush the wall of flesh easily so I'm considering just going to hard mode getting something to kill him and coming back.

Is there any low hanging fruit in hard mode that would make killing skeletron possible without making an arena or being a Korean pro with the controls?

I'm playing one character one world expert. It's a crimson world.

Update: 2015-09-27 0340 PM

I did finally manage to kill him. As I clearly had no choice, I made an arena and a massive (3000-4000 long) rail track. Beenades for his hands in the arena, minishark on the track for the skull, 2 potions during the fight, iron, regen, and fish dinner prior to the fight.

Full molten, full warding/mobility accessories.

I still totally say this boss is broken. It's actually more like 3 bosses at once and nothing prehardmode does sufficient damage. At the very least the potion cool down needs to be halved.

I hated making an arena, it was not fun, it was tedious and felt like cheating, even with the goblin builder pack.

Please stop the racist implications towards koreans. Thx!

Just find the magician in hardmode and craft crystal storm / golden shower early to fight skeletron later.

An arena is easy to make, but you can use hammer cheats and get to the jungle temple. From there, farm some solar eclipses for a death sickle.

There arent that much thing in dungeon though and the expert drop is useless. If you can beat wall of flesh (as its easy as ♥♥♥♥ with lots of beenades) dont even bother. As the dungeon doesnt contain such good items i say dont even bother with it.Also there is a yoyo skeletorn guide of Yrimir( a youtuber terrarian) you can beat him way more easily if you do everything shown in the video(this includes a flat arena without any floor.

Wasn't really racist, more like profiling. And a good profile at that. Shouldn't be any offense at saying that someone is good at coordination. Have you seen the Korean starcraft leagues? ♥♥♥♥'s scary.

Honestly I'm not sure. I think it's just the feeling that I shouldn't have to. None of the other bosses required that for me beyond house building for respawns.

I meant south Koreans, as in nationality, not race. They are the world leaders in professional gaming, they treat it like a national sport. And in other threads when people complain about *anything* being difficult a tide of tryhards pop up with their bizarre gamer work ethic telling everybody to practice more (or "git gud" if you're looking for a direct quote.)

The biggest problem with skipping skeletron is denying myself access to machines. It's lame the only way to get wires is kill the most broken boss prehardmode.

This is proof the boss is completely broken. Dude is drinking a sea of potions, built a half mile of arena, and has some obvious APM skills.

I am just never going to be able to kill him with prehardmode gear. Despite roflstomping the whole rest of the map. Balance fail.

Expert Skeletron is hard, but not that hard to the point you'd need hardmode equipment to deal with him. Have a flat area around the dungeon and make a second tier off of the roof of the entrance. Make good use of a pair of spectre+ boots and of course, take out the hands first.

Yeah, shortly after 1.3 came out I did a two-player playthrough with a friend of mine. It took a small amount of ground flattening and quite a bit of finess to actually land the kill. My friend died repeatedly. I was the tank. No other point in the game put that much stress on me in dodging with the equipment available. It was quite the rush.

But the point is, it's called expert mode for a reason. If you aren't being stressed, you're amongst the elite.

No, "expert" mode is misnamed. There is far too much content denied players who don't play expert.

In my opinion all the items and drops in expert and hard mode should occur in normal mode, letting the "core" (soft/medium/hard) setting moderate challenge along with the various boss and event unlocks.

It should be possible to progress smoothly from end to end through the entire game but currently it isn't. (Maybe have the first WOF kill enable expert mode?) And stuff like the skeletron boss fight highlight that fact.

Sidenote: I'd also like to see corruption and crimson in the same world, and I'd like to see biome enemies sometimes being hostile to each other. It would also be neat to be able to ask NPCs to follow you.

Skeletron isnt broken in anyway, he is just more challenging than the other bunch. If you can dodge him well and drink only few potions you will be ready soonish for hardmode expert bosses.

Sry op, but terraria is a very easy game and you surely dont need godly dodge skills or anything.
Why you ask ? Because you can always progress on your own pace and you can overprepare everything and farm as long as you want. This thing here is no ninja gaiden or something. In terraria you never instantly die unless you were so stupid to fall into a long chasm without a horseshoe. So stop your silly exaggerations!

And for the record expert was never meant for 30 hour terraria noobs. Its for bored people as a second playthrough to see new mechanics and takes on old bosses!

The trick about skeletron is dodging him in a circle pattern. That way you could even fight him with bottle , rocket boots , horseshoe and get ZERO damage. You could even fight him naked if your that brave ( just with those 3 accessories ).
Every boss is about patterns and adjusting on their attacks. Tbh skeletrons fight is most enjoyable as queen bee is quite boring and wall of flesh gets ridiculous easy as soon as you got hardmode gear / weapons. The expert EOC was kinda cute. Brain of cthulhu on expert is too easy just random decoys. And last but not least the EOW, sure he can be challenging with his bullet hell, but i find that boss in general boring, since you just need a good pierce weapon ...

Thanks for completely missing the point and totally dismissing the existence of other players and diversity among them.

Thats for not understanding the logic behind expert modes at all. And grats on beeing stubborn towards any advices whatsoever. I know many players with varying skills and none of them ever said skeletron is broken. So that proof is on your side and very subjective.
And also grats on showing to not be able to argue, but instead of going off topic with random insults.

Now you might reread posts and give actual reasoning and arguments. Time will tell ...

And if you are really scared of skeletron you might want to start a new normal world or get some allies to help you carry you through expert mode.
