Re-Logic doesn't plan to do anything?
To be honest, I'm really frustrated because it seems like everything I buy these days comes with problems. The games I buy on Steam, including Terraria, get corrupted after a while and then there's no chance of a refund. Steam washes its hands of the issue, saying it's not their problem, it's the indie developer's responsibility, and Re-Logic seems to be turning a blind eye. I think it's unfair that 239 hours of gameplay are lost due to a programming error that remains unsolved, despite the company claiming Terraria was finished. I just want one thing: either a refund or my saved game back

It's a widely known problem sadly, which involves using Steam cloud storage for saves and/or Microsoft One Drive app. So I may give you only a "postfactum" wisdom sadly.

1) Never use any cloud storage ever. They are all ♥♥♥♥.
2) Backup all your saves manually and regularly. The old school way but it's the only way to be really sure. Control, do not depend on what you don't control.

Just in case check the content of your Steam cloud storage for Terraria here:
https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/?appid=105600
But I doubt your saves will be there.
Since saves are local you can't get your save back if it's lost. Re-Logic doesn't have your character or world data saved anywhere.

I've had this game for some 16+ years and none of my characters or worlds have become corrupted or deleted.
It's an error sure, but it doesn't make the game unplayable enough to refund it. It sucks yeah, but that's data management and not the game itself.

There are only 2 types of people:
1)Those who make backups.
2)Those who will make backups.

Dude have you ever heard of backup? Just start over, this time with backup...

game isn't even 14 years old yet but sure, you've had it for over 16

Re-Logic *never* had your saved data. Steam or the relevant Console platform, and/or OneDrive or other backup software on Desktop does.

A simple typo my friend.

The point still stands, it's not a common error that constantly screw people over. It sucks, but it's not that the game is broken unlike things like Calisto Protocol.
i have an unholy amount of hours on this game, and i've only had characters or worlds corrupt due to mod issues or modifying files directly.
if you're using cloud sync, its probably a huge issue with that. don't use it. everything is saved locally, make manual back-ups. (or don't. i don't. again, never had an issue with vanilla. don't download sketchy mods n those probably won't do anything either.)
yes, its a problem, but its a problem that has a *very easy* work-around.

I'm sorry, but how are you blaming this game because your computer messed up hard and deleted your save in this game?

Or did I misunderstand you, and somehow this game broke it?
th Apr 15 @ 8:34am
The game is probably broken somewhere about Steam cloud storage communication. Sometimes saves vanish or become corrupted. Most often people find out about it after a long pause from the game. Not always though. It's kind of a sporadic issue. But there are a lot of topics like that. Other Steam games' forums don't have such many topics about losing saves.

ignore the comments saying that what youre saying is invalid, it may be exagerrated but i agree with you. terraria putting your saves in onedrive sucks and pmo. you can either remove onedrive from your windows or you can just regularly back up your worlds (copy paste them somewhere to keep them safe)
th Apr 16 @ 8:43am
It's not that easy to remove OneDrive sadly. It reinstalls itself with every Windows update whether you want it or not. Same with Steam cloud storage. Even if you switch it off - it reenables itself with every Steam update. Microsoft and Valve don't give an f-word about us, their customers. They shove their s-word down our throats whether we like it or not.

And we think it's unfair that you played this game 239 hours and only payed 10$, that's 4 pennies per hour of gameplay. If anyone here owes someone something, it's probably you :p
