Background blocks?
Currently I'm trying to build a fountain. What I would "like" is something made of blocks, so that it looks like a real structure, but have it on the background layer, so that we can still walk past it.

Is there any type of block or item that looks like a structure, but can be walked past? Using walls just doesn't look right.

Are you far enough to enter the dungeon and get a mechanic? She sells "actuators" that you use to "turn blocks off", so-to-speak. So wire an actuator to a button or switch of some sort and you turn the block off so you can walk past it. (You need one actuator for each block, so a 50-block structure requires 50 actuators.)

If you don't have a mechanic, really the only block I can think of this way is wooden planks.

A combination of wall blocks and actuated blocks can be used to great effect for a fountain design.

Use the wall blocks to form the core parts of the fountain, like the base and the body, while adding in actuated blocks to mold into any curves or sharp edges by hammering them. You can get away with adding solid blocks to the upper layers of the fountain so it looks more realistic while maintaing the necessary height clearance to walk past it.

Though if you want to make it so it's completely in the background, chances are you'll want waterfall blocks and its variants to simulate the liquid flowing down the the fountain.
I would go with marble and fences. Also remember that you can paint background walls. So for example you can use background marble, then some smooth marble, throw in the texture of the normal wood background but paint it grey. Eventually top it with some actual bloocks with a statue on or just background waterfalls.
