Feeling comfortable about base location

When i begin to build my base my favorite area is under ground, currently im trying to work out of the habbit but ironicly i feel safer under ground then on the surface or in the sky. What locations do you guys like building your base

I prefer to build away from spawn, either on the far left or right. That way, If people join, they won't be near my stuff XD I've never really tried building underground though... I'll give it a shot sometime! :D

Currently im on my new world and im trying to force myself to build above ground xD so im going to build a little iin between and make a dome. Reason i build close or on spawn is because when i put a save poin at a safehouse in the jungle or somewhere i just take off the save point and use recall and go to my spawn hence my base :D also i dont worry about people stealing my things because i have my server opened to friends and i have a hidden base further down my hellhole in my other worlds

Oh, that's a great idea about the spawn! I've never actually been "robbed", but I hear alot of stories about it, so I'm just nervous xD

I feel you, i have a friend im playing with he doesnt rob me but he uses wormhole potions like its going out of style......its become in addiction to him xD

I usually build my base in the air, not very high, only like 20-30 blocks above ground and I climb up using ropes. That way, I don't get ground mobs inside my base and flying mobs can't open doors, which means it's pretty safe.

in one of my worlds i built a sky island, i actually plan to build around the dome as well trying to match the style with the NPC.....one idea is for the steampunk girl (much later in game) she will have a bronze space ship thats landed on a platform just outside the dome

I had a world and built a house with the help of TShock. All i had to find was a sky island. And get it as a hallow biome. And i had alot! It made me happy. Even a big darn house like a boat in one of my other worlds! And get a good pizzeria place.

You'll have to watch out in Hardmode though, the wyverns will take you down if you have made your dome too high up

i usually build a hellavator and attach a skyhome to it but lately ive gotten into the habit into terraforming an entire world and filling it with the stuff i get from helping others get acievements

i actually plan to build a large tower in the middle connected to a hellivator and a skye house to kill Wyverns

I always have built on the surface, usually villages that span horizontally around 1500 feet. I hate trapping NPCs in towers, so I try to vary my art style so my village isn't just a deconstructed wooden tower. I also have secret chests that I use actuated blocks to hide (I have a switch to enable/disable access to it, and even though it's in plain sight, no one has found it yet ). Usually these are on the surface, in a "cave" that I mark with an unusual block. For example, the secret chest in my normal mode farming world is directly above a mud block in a "highway" (underground horizontal passage connecting parts of my village using a minecart track for speed) in an ice biome. Unfortunately I forgot to put my almost 50 Golem power cells and golden fishing pole in there and after an eight-year-old joined my world (he told me himself that he was eight) they "mysteriously" vanished.

folks share pictures of your awesome sky / underground bases ! they can be easily uploaded with the steam screenshot manager !

also so far i built pretty much anywhere : near spawn, cavern lava laboratory , sky island garden , underwater ocean pirate hideouts. the only place i never built so far , since its uncomfortable to reach is in hell :p
