And you can bring some spelunker potions to increase your chances of finding them.
Even on a small world the ice biome:
- Stops in the cavern layer and does not reach all the way to the underworld.
- Takes less than a quarter of the worlds width at it's widest area.
I recommend that you go down the the lower parts of the cavern layer, drink a spelunker potion and dig horizontally. This is probably the fastest way to mine the hardmode ores.
Or, you can just start fishing up crates and opening them. If opened in hardmode, they sometimes contain the hardmode ores (wooden crates only) and bars (all crate types). That way you can also get hardmode ores that hadn't spawned in your world.
