hardmode ore not spawning

i defeated the wall of flesh and broke 5-6 demon altars in the crimson as well as killing the wispy things that spawn because of it and i went looking for ore for a good 30 minutes and only found 2 peices of cobalt ore, granted i was mining mostly in an ice biome but i noticed that there isn't that much ore in my world in the first place, although that shouldn't affect hardmode ore spawns becuase they replace normal blocks underground. another problem may have been that i didnt go that deep but i dont think that should be a factor. help please!

you need to be mid level down fow anything good to spawn, and ice has no ore

i just went and tried going deeper to look in the standard cavern biome and still no luck, ive also been checking around on other parts of the internet and this seems to be a unique problem so far. this is starting to piss me off a little

and i have found small veins of standard ore in the ice biome as well i guess it just doesnt let hardmode ores spawn there

Search the area just above the underworld. The hardmode ores usually spawn there.

And you can bring some spelunker potions to increase your chances of finding them.

just went searcing again, almost on underworld level and was only able to fine 13 peices of cobalt ore but it would seem that the hardmode ores cannot spawn in ice biomes and that sucks because almost all of my underground is ice biome

Even on a small world the ice biome:

- Stops in the cavern layer and does not reach all the way to the underworld.

- Takes less than a quarter of the worlds width at it's widest area.

I recommend that you go down the the lower parts of the cavern layer, drink a spelunker potion and dig horizontally. This is probably the fastest way to mine the hardmode ores.


Or, you can just start fishing up crates and opening them. If opened in hardmode, they sometimes contain the hardmode ores (wooden crates only) and bars (all crate types). That way you can also get hardmode ores that hadn't spawned in your world.
