Underground walls (How to remove?!!!)

I cant seem to remove the walls underground, help plz

u cant destroy them unless your breaking them from the surface down

You can also break them from the border of the underground (there's no more walls down there except for some structures and random caves), anything starting from the edge and working to the inside.

You are amazing sir. I don’t care that this is 4 years old, I was making a dungeon for my NPCs in the desert biome and when I realized I couldn’t break the walls or place any my sanity nearly left me. I spent so long building it before I put in the walls

Explosives can destroy walls deep underground. I noticed it when i was playing around with bundle of dynamite and detonator. After you punched a hole in background just finish the rest with your hammer.

Additional tip for confined spaces that you would rather not disturb: If you've reached end-game already and have access to Lihzahrd blocks then you can make a small outline around the explosive so that all you destroy is the backwall.

Dungeon bricks are explosion proof from what i heard also and you can get them eariler.

Briks are explosion proof, but they do not block explosions, nor can explosives break walls now.
