I can't join my own multiplayer server. Help!
I can't seem to join my own multiplayer server.
Here's what happens.
Log into Terraria
Multiplayer, Host & Play, Chose character, World
Server Settings:
Steam Multiplayer: Enabled
Allowed Users: Friends
Allowed Friends of Friends:Off
Start
Server Password : (Tried this with and without a password same results)
Game says "Found Server" with nothing happening
The mini game tip messages continue to change and scroll
The game stays this way till I log out
When my Husband joins the servers I start, he CAN connect to them.
His character enters the world server I started, he can even run a short
distance on the map before all blocks disappear and he falls all the way off
the bottom edge of the map.
He logged out quickly after that
While he was in the server on his end, the "Found Server" Screen with the
scrolling game tips was still happening for me on my end.
If my husband starts a multiplayer server from his end I CAN connect to it
just fine.
I am able to play in his world with him with zero problems.
I used to play Terraria on my Steam account on my old laptop, and still
can, without any issues. I can start a multiplayer server, connect to it,
and play. And my husband can connect to my multiplayer server when I
initiate it from the old laptop.
I only have a problem joining the multiplayer server I create from my new PC

My first steps to fix this was to uninstall steam and Terraria, then
reinstall.
I did that with the same results as above.
My next step was creating an exception in my windows firewall to allow
Terraria through the standard 7777 Local Port.
I went into my windows Firewall Advanced Settings and created a New Inbound
Rule.
I gave Permission for the Specific local TCP Port 7777 and allowed the
connection
Same results as listed above.

Now I really don't know what to do.
My only other guess as to what is wrong, is something to do with the cloud
possibly. I say this because this PC is new, I just bought it a week ago.
When I started it up for the first time and got all my initial Windows 10
settings filled in, I chose not to save files to the cloud. But to save
files to the Hard Drive.

Please Help me get this straightened out. If you give me clear enough
instructions I can probably fix this myself.
Thanks for reading. I hope to hear back from somebody soon.

I had this issue not long ago and I finally found a solution, however it took me some time to do. My problem was it was a conflict with armoury crate.

I would suggest making a server via the TerrariaServer.exe in the steam game files. This would make it a dedicated server and it sounds like you know how to port forward so you should be fine there. If you both live together then you both join the server via your local IP. I believe your forward IP works in Terraria server join but I don't remember.

Edit: (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Terraria) is the location of the server.exe

Well to be honest the exception trick was a tip my dad gave to me. I only halfway know what to do with your instructions. I fallow you as far as the correct game files folder. From there am I supposed to insert my local IP address correct? And I can find that in my system settings, I know that part. So do I really just copy my Local IP and paste it into Terraria Common folder?

Even if I missed what the issue was for ya, give the TerrariaServer.exe thing a try. Easy to use and it gives you a more fluid in game experience when it comes to latency. Definitely worth using.

Ok so i can just plug my IP address into the "Join Via IP" section of multiplayer In Game right?

I believe you can even though you are local with Terraria. If not then you just use your local IP. Use a guide like this (https://lifehacker.com/how-to-find-your-local-and-external-ip-address-5833108#:~:text=Windows,is%20your%20local%20IP%20address.) where you use "ipconfig" in command prompt.

Ok I just entered my IPv6 in "Join Via IP" its asking for a port number. It is currently set to 7777. should I change it to a different port?

The link doesn't seem to work so:
1) Search Bar in bottom left of screen of windows, Type in: Command Prompt (Black boxed window, First result)
2) type in "ipconfig" and press enter
3) the line saying "IPv4.....:#######" is your local IP

I'm sure you know your external forward IP by the sounds of it. If not then use this (https://whatismyipaddress.com/) which it should be the IPv4 there.

the IPv6 didn't work but I will look at your link and see if I can figure this out.

Yeah it will work. If you both are on the same network, it should work for both of you for connecting to the server.
