True dat I usually don't bother with magic until I actually beat the game and have good mage gear... but at that poin magic kicks so much ass that it's not even funny anymore :) Well aside from the Moon Lord ( can't beat him solo unless I play ranged D: )
Mage also seems kind of sucky early on because your mana pool is tiny and there's not much in the way of good, mana-efficient spells available at the start - and again, by the time you can actually make it work, you'll have found a far more effective build doing something else.
Ranged seems to have the absolutely most rocky and hard path to go, and is not that good at all, p' much useless without chlorophyte bullets.
Melee might have a lot of defence and all, but what good will that do when you need to be in the monster's face?
Magic is only useful when fighting The Destroyer.
