NPCs keep moving out?
Keep running into issues with NPCs. Started with Nurse and Arms Dealer in desert. They stayed in their house for quite a while with no issue but one day they moved back into my main base. Went to their desert house and tried to move them back in but met with "This room is missing a wall". Nothing about the house changed. Still has all doors, walls, tables, chairs, and lights. Replaced all the walls and it worked for a few in game days before moving back into main base. Then made a house for steampunker, Stayed in it for a few in game days before moving into main base. Went to their house and got same error about missing a wall. Is this a glitch or or is something destroying walls?

Sounds like a glitch, nothing destroys walls except you. The only time I encountered a scenario like this is when the corruption/crimson creeps too close to NPC housing. They really don't like that

That's what I figured happened the first time with the hallow. But I dug a hell tunnel and cleared it out anywhere near the desert house. But then it happened again with no changes to house or biome.

hallow doesn't actually prevent housing, only corruption/crimson

May be there is a missing wall behind some of the blocks which enclosure the house? In that case you can't see it's missing. I don't know. Just wild guess. I am not even sure it works like that. But I always put walls behind those blocks just to be sure.

Does seem like maybe the houses are missing something, they're not dying right? Maybe there's a missing wall behind some of the furniture, the smart mouse can let you put the walls in all the proper spaces

They aren't missing anything. Like I said they will move in and live there for quite some time before just leaving. And the only way to get them to move back in is to completely cover house with new wall

As far as I know walls are able to corrupt each other but not blocks. May be somewhere nearby there is a corrupted wall of some kind?
