Iv played a few, Starbound/Dig or Die for a couple of examples, but they just dont come even close to Terraria.
Thats also my concern with sequalling Terraria, which is why i think 2.5D would be a good evolution path, and if possible Multiversing without having to close the server/game session.
*faces reality*
Reality just told me it's only a matter of time that we will eventually see a Terraria 2 or Terraria-like game.

also off topic but moon lord theme just got 10x better and it actually sounds like a real boss theme https://youtu.be/q3NkDfLPeoo
You can download 1000 mods for Skyrim.
Its still Skyrim.
As for terraria 2 , it will likely never happen (I wish it would but let's be realistic), if they REALLY wanted to make a sequel they would have made it themselves (it's been over 10 years now) , instead they hired someone else to make terraria otherworld and the people they hired botched it so bad they cancelled the whole thing and never tried again
We are lucky some of the ideas from otherworld ended up in the later patches we got but the biggest factor was otherworld was going to have a system where you could travel to different planets to explore instead of having to make a new world each time.
If that sounds familiar you should realize that the guy who made starbound used to work for re-logic and he left suddenly and made starbound before otherworld could release , it's a bit suspicious , I don't know if he stole the idea or what but starbound is now also botched (beta open world mode was amazing , storymode is boring and bad and has ZERO replayability) so in the end we have no alternative to terraria.
Since there is no competition and terraria 1 still sells they have no reason to spend money making another full game and since they were not really enthusiastic about making terraria 2 in the first place , I doubt they would do it just for the sake of doing it.
reminds me of redigit friend named "blue" on re-logic yt channel, back when terraria came out red was doing playthoughs and there was a guy named blue. i heard he stopped working on terraria and i guess thats when red became the lead
As for why Terraria 2 was being made in the first place, there are some things that they want to do that the engine Terraria runs on can't do.
So unless they manage to make a work around, they are possibly still working on it.
