I was curious about the bottles too. I haven't gotten far myself. I am trying to avoid the Wiki, but it looks like I am going to have to do a lot of reading since this game doesn't give very much direction.
Your friend really should've explained that it's the ones on the ground that disappear in the daytime. Once you pick them up, they stick around forever; or until you use/drop them.
I'm kinda surprised he'd even mention it, at all. New players usually don't even notice it, since they've got more important things to worry about than whether or not a star on the ground vanishes at dawn. Like keeping the zombies from eating their brains.
- Stars in bottles (light source with a neat particle effect)
- Mana crystals (gives you more maximum mana when used, up to 200 max)
- Ingredient in some potions
- Crafting material for some items
- Ammunition for the Star Cannon
They also do a lot of damage to enemies, if they happen to land on one. They do not damage player characters.
