Super newbie question--Armors and weapons

I've played the game for around 5 hours, in the same world with the same player, and I am not able to make weapons or armors out of anything that's not wood. I can't make Tin armor, or Iron armor, etc. Is that normal? At which part of the development of my character I am allowed to make those? Do I need a recipe or something?
I've explored a lot and I got stuck lots of times cause I have no damage and no defense.
I've looked for the answer to this question in google, and in here, and found no help.

Data: I have 3 people living with me (the guide, the painter, and another one that looks like an arabian snake trainer)

Are you standing next to an anvil when trying to make weapons/armor out of tin/iron?

Yes, I am. All the game gives me as a choice is wood armor/weapons

You need a Furnace to make metal Bars, you need at least 5 Iron or Lead bars to make an Anvil, you need an Anvil to craft metal Bars into equipment, you need about 8+ Bars to actually be able to make much of anything.

I have the Furnace, I have the anvil, and I have iron and tin. Still the game won't let me purcharse Tin/Iron armor

I haven't purchased the bars for crafting the armor. Is it possible that the game won't let me make it until I have enough material?

take the metal ore to the Guide, and select the Crafting option. Place the ore in the revealed box. It will tell you how many ore you need to make a bar. If you have bars, do the same with them, to see how many you need to make something with them. The Guide knows all the recipes in the game, bring him a material and he will tell you exactly what you need to make something with that. Heck, it even lists the crafting station you need to be near!

I have already done that with the guide
It looks like I have a very particular problem over here :/ This may explain why I didn't find answers on google. I hardly think this is bug, I am doing something wrong and I don't know what

Problem solved. The solution was on my fourth comment. The game won't let you see the items you can buy unlees you have enough to buy them.

...yeah... it's crafting.... it won't let you craft unless you have enough, since the crafting menu is made to actually make things.

For whaetever reason, it takes pretty large amounts to craft armor in this game. I suppose the challenge of gathering enough acts as an achievement mechanism of some sort. Just having basic, effective armor is a challenge unto itself.
