Blocks and Walls for Building?
I'd like to start building more and what are some good materials for building in general?

My house is made of dirt, easiest to find.

wiki says that could be a problem once you beat the game and enter hardmode. I'm building a tree farm and slowly rebulding as wood.

Anything that doesn't fall when you place it or spread biomes.

A few blocks can't be destroyed easily by bombs, but there's nothing that's completely indestructable. (Obviously, if you gathered it and placed it there.)

So pick what you like the look of, because they're pretty much all good blocks.

I mean for aesthetics. I'm well into hardmode and I just want to start building structures/houses/whatever just to build.

Then no one can really help you. Aesthetics are highly subjective. Just pick the block type you like the look of and go.

I know it's subjective, I'd like some suggestions though.

Lizahrd brick isn't a bad choice for durability if you're concerned about trolls and greifers lobbing explosives. There's only one tool in the game capable of removing it, and from my experience these jerks don't bring such tools to troll.

I'm not expecting griefers since I won't ever host and if I do I'll have a backup of my world and characters.

i play solo so i tend to use alot of stone to make gray brick and then outline it with some hardcore ore that really stands out like the orange ore (yea i cant spell it off the top of my head so)

or copper plating and the very same orange ore

I have already responded to this.

i like Tin plating, gray bricks (outlines) , gemspark (core), and cobalt with some paint (walls).

If you really have the ressources, you can try titanstone to make awesome stuff, plus asphalt.

But seriously, try to make your own choices ;)

There's about 132 different types of blocks (not counting walls). 6 are subject to gravity, making them ill-suited for building. Another 9 spread biomes. 14 if you count the "uncorrupted" blocks that can become corrupted or spread other biomes. That leaves roughly 112 to choose from, each with their own unique looks. And this includes the various ores which can be placed back down to use as building materials, but doesn't count living wood or leaf blocks.

The combinations are huge, and just asking us to pick our favorite blocks doesn't really do justice. Each block is unique, and offers different things to any given design. You really should just use your best judgement when choosing blocks.

Gemspark looks like it'd be nice for lights and Titanstone looks promising. Thanks.

I am rather partial to silver brick. It looks like a much more refined version of grey brick which is the material I probably use the most of.

EDIT:[/i] And that would be the THIRD time I started a new page so far...
