1.4.5 once it arrives on an existing save
What happens to existing saves if 1.4.5 drops? Will the world synch to new update and add it's content during playthrough or remain same since the world is created? Or the worse, is there a possibility that saves won't be compatible with the new version?

As long as something isn't tied to world gen there will be nothing to worry about.

in the past 1.x.y (e.g 1.3.4) haven't wiped saves or anything so I'm doubtful 1.4.5 would wipe or delete any progress, if there's new things added by worldgen, like new structures or new biomes or whatever that would most likely just not appear on your world and you'd need a new world to see it
if it's something like a new enemy or boss, it should work fine, if it's something in worldgen that appears overtime, like the gelatin crystals, you should be fine
only if it's things like structures, like for example, shimmer. and biomes might have a chance to let you take it from another world and artificially make that biome in your world

only significant updates like 1.4 wipe your data as far as I know, and if you backup your saves or store them on the cloud you can use them anyways but you might run into some minor problems

My character and worlds from 1.2 still works. But the world is missing all those things that has been added with world gen. Like chest content, dungeon chests, the underground tundra biome etc.

So probably nothing to worry about.

Minor problems like what? Last time I remember manual save is %100 safe and nothing can be broken but cloud is a risk

typically just new content being weird on older saves
sometimes they just don't work well on older worlds but it won't like kill your game or anything
might just be a bit awkward or janky

GOG.com is superior in comparison to Steam about that. You can pause an update there and finish up your playthrough using the old version. And if you use an offline game installer to install the game then it doesn't have an update feature at all. You just have to install new version of the game manually.

Valve sucks.

You can do this in Steam only playing in the offline mode. It's very inconvenient and for many games (which have online features) it's just impossible.

The only thing that happened to my worlds when updating is the minimap getting reset, but it was during the 1.3-1.4 transition on console.
