Do mimics have special spawning parameters?
Ive had times when getting mimics to spawn in specific spots has been noticably easy, When most often they can be quite rare. The only time ive ever seen them spawn on the surface was specificly on the left side of my base and nowhere else. When i check my hellbridge, they are much rarer despite having plenty of area to spawn on. Does anyone know whats going on?

Mimics can spawn on the surface if there are natural dirt background walls. If you want to farm them, try digging out a large, flat area deep enough that natural dirt walls extend to at least the height of your character and then killing things until some appear.

I don't think this method makes them any more likely to spawn, but it does make it easier to find them if you have a simple, flat area (make sure there are no pockets just below the surface in which enemies could spawn).

I'll try it, but i dont see it why there is such a huge difference between the surface and hell

Stardust Dragon is good for farming everything. When I'm underground I barely get a chance to fight anything because Stardust Dragon kills them so quickly. There are tons of enemy drops everywhere, and even ones in holes in the wall that I can't get at without mining. Slow down buudy, my inventory fills too fast! #endgameproblems

But more on topic, any minion can help with farming. The spider set and spider staff can be crafter from spider drops in hardmode, and so can be acquired almost immediately after hardode starts. You could even AFK if you have good enough minions, but I don't know if the spiders can kill Mimics fast enough to prevent them from hurting you. You'll need minions with a large aggro range for AFK farming to work. I used a Xeno Staff to farm for pirate maps, but even that is post-Golem.

I don't know why, either, but all I know is that I've only see two or three Mimics in hell, but I've seen ~10 in an area on the surface with significant natural dirt walls. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that a lot of Hell enemies can fly, whereas normal surface enemies (e.g. slimes) can't, so maybe (read: speculation) the mimic has a higher rate of spawn relative to other enemies on the surface because only the ground is available for spawning (I don't even know if bats actually spawn midair or not).

Could you explain on this? Why specificly the slime staff?

Oh yes. Too bad that the Slime Staff and two of the three base ingredients of the Greedy Ring are absurdly rare. It must have taken me ~400 hours (I played on console first) before I got a Slime Staff, though I never farmed for one. That would work with a statue-spawned Mmic, but in therms of actual drops, they only give their banner. Maybe... placing out the Mimic banner would be enough for weaker minions to kill the Mimics AFK? I don't know.

Would minions be able to target mimics while afk? I noticed that spider minons dont travel very far from me to attack, And mimics will only spawn offscreen and wont move towards me

Hmm, that might be a problem, then. The minions from the Xeno Staff killed most enemies before the came onscreen when I was farming for Pirate Maps (if the location of the drops was any indicaton). I don't have much experience with the spiders, so I'm afraid I can't tell you how much aggro range they have. If the spiders only kill enemies that are onscreen, they might not work. You could try building some wood platforms in the sky so the ground is just offscreen and then dumping the spiders to the surface, but I don't actually know if that would work.

Meh, i dont need to afk farm them anyway. I just want the damn things to spawn consistently

Corrupt mimics can be synthetically made by putting a soul key into any chest and exiting the chest
Wildly Mild Feb 2, 2016 @ 11:08am
Its not those kinds of mimics im looking for
