Can't invite friend

My friend and I tried to play terraria together and I tried to invite him, but the "Invite Friends" button doesn't work, I click it and it does nothing. I've restarted the game and verified the integrity of the game cache many times, but it still doesn't work. I run this game on El Capitan (Mac). Any suggestions?

Host-->Multiplayer-->Host & Play mode.
Friend-->Multiplayer-->Join via Steam-->Pick Host-->Join Game
OR Steam Friends List-->Find Host-->Join Game

Have you tried having your friend hitting 'join game'?

My friend tried to click "Join via Steam," and he said nothing happened when he clicked it. He also has a Mac too.

Right, you have to host by selecting [Host & Play] under the Multiplayer section.

If you're already doing that, then have him try to host and see if you can join him & see what happens.

I've got a Mac and I met the same problem

Yep. Just invite your friend through the steam overlay.

I have a windows 10 and it aint workin for me either. Any onw you have any suggestions?

I think this is happening due to the fact that Steam decided to update the way contacting friends work, therefore Terraria needs to also update as well.

I also have a windows 10. This problem is effecting me. The invite will not pop up and when I do tab + alt it will not show anything. When I verify the integrity of game files it says one is missing but it doesn't retrieve it. Someone please find a solution to this.

post is 4 Years old,
but i suggest the following:
i suggest doing standard PC householding
Restart game
check game cache
check firewall and/or antivirus who might block it and whitelist game folder
and if all that dose not work then
restart PC
