Mechanical worm spawned without any items?

Hey, so to get to the point: The destroyer spawned, and killes 2 of my NPCs, but I checked my inventory, and I still got my summon item for it. We dont even have corruption on our map. Is it actually possible that the destroyer spawn without any item? (We are in hardmode and got a few of the hardmode ores).

yes until you beat them the mechanical bosses can spawn at random (night)

Its actually true: Each mechanical boss can spawn at random in hardmode untill they are defeated via an item or random spawn, I know this from experience because i've had multiple playthroughs where on my first night in hardmode the twins spawned and killed me instantly pretty much

If you don't get the mech bosses killed soon then they will continue to spawn at night, (not a bad way to farm them without having to make the summons), they have a 10% chance to spawn at night time.

Yes, all three of the mechanical bosses have a 1/3 chance of spawning every night the moment that world has entered hardmode. Note that they do not stack with eachother (As in they dont spawn 3/3 when none are killed yet) and will not spawn if you are underground when they were to spawn that night, (unless you go up before morningtime.)
