I didn't care about Unicorns; I needed Light Mummies for something, and the Crimson pretty much completely devoured my surface desert almost on impact. So I planted a few pink Ice on the border of the snow and started spreading it until I got to a relatively flat area where I made my desert and set up a small arena with Water Candles and banners for farming. Unicorns were an incidental spawn while I was doing this, and I ended up with a LOT of Unicorn Horns very quickly, and several Blessed Apples to boot. (And my Ice Fishing surface base became half Hallow half Snow depending on where I stood, hah, that was convenient.)
