Vanilla Terraria = controller is okay but not customizable, good enough to finish the game.
tModLoader Terraria = Gamepad controller is not recommended, coz Mods doesn't support it, and some mods adds complex UI element and "Windowing".
Maybe in the future we will see a mod that supports gamepad controller, but i kinda doubt it.
also:
PC
Pros: Mods, Resource Packs, Executable Patches/Hacks, Tools to extract resources.
Cons: More Wrist Pain for me, but i learn to take a rest or switch to my bluetooth gamepad from time to time.
Home Console
Pros: Comfort
Cons: Not moddable. Don't have one LMAO.
Switch/Mobile
Pros: Comfort, Portability. My favorite.
Cons: Not moddable, maybe in the future (Resource Packs).
This collection that i assembled helps me a lot when using Mouse and Keyboard.
