How safe is this base?
This is a new, wip base i've made. I'm hoping to keep it safe from monsters completely, particularly during a blood moon. I'm playing on hard mode. I'm also trying to prevent npcs from wandering off in the day and getting themselves stuck in caves. How safe would you say it is? And would you recommend anything to make it safer? http://imgur.com/5thLquA

As it is, its a pretty safe base. If you are having troubles with npcs wandering off you could level some of the surrounding area and you could turn that center area into a "garden" where your npcs could walk during daytime but still be safe.
No matter what you do, it'll never be completely safe, because of spawns that can go through walls. But if it's keeping the regular bosses out, it's fine.

Thanks for the idea! I'll go try and do that later. Anyone know if zombies can get through trap doors like they can with regular doors on a blood moon?

Monsters can pass through platforms yes. And this is at all times not just blood moon. "Walking enemies can similarly walk on or pass through platforms. Flying enemies like bats will fly up through them, but not down. Other enemies, including harpies, ignore them entirely. NPCs will always climb up platforms."

Trap doors are different from platforms though. http://terraria.gamepedia.com/Trap_Door But ty for the advice for platforms! Not sure if zombies and such can fall through trap doors if they're closed, but since it behaves just like a door with it opening/closing I don't think so.

Trap doors? No. Tall gates? Yes.

When you said you were playing on hard mode I assume you meant expert mode (unless you beat WoF with 100 HP and copper tier gear). You base should be safe for now, but when hardmode begins, wraiths will appear at night (only during blood moons if you have enough NPCs), which can pass through walls.

If you continue expanding the base upward, then I recommend that you relocate the guide to a higher floor for his safety. Otherwise, you're pretty much set. Assuming you dig the proper quarantine trenches before starting hardmode...

It's okay i forget things all the time too, there is just so much stuff to make in terraria.

edit: Oh lol I meant hard mode as in the difficulty settings that appear when you first make the world. I'm pretty new to this game so idk about expert mode. I kept hearing everyone talk about that mode and just assumed it was the one that you chose when first making the world. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah, it's extremely confusing, especially when you're new. If you're using a hardcore character, then there's literally nothing different from playing the game with any other character difficulty. That only punishes you more harshly for dying.

Hradmode on the other hand, is just a certain point in the game's progression where there's a sudden spike in difficulty. It feels a lot like starting over again, where everythign is a threat and you need to go mining for ore to make better equipment just to survive.

But if you're new to the game, I'd suggest you start with a normal world first. Expert gets pretty rough, even for experienced players. Expert mode vs normal is attached to the world itself.
