How is Terraria funded?

Since a long time i have been thinking about this.
There are alot of publishers out there, that release a new "game" every year, like FIFA, that all the people have to buy again for like 40 Bucks. They make millions with this.
How can Terraria still be supplied with new updates, when you have to pay only 5$ once, no DLCs? I can't get in my head how they make enough money?
And they even donated 200K ?!

That is actually one of the reasons Terraria is the greatest game ever for me. The lack of greed keeps it so amazing

because the studio doesnt have a staff of 500+ bodies working with the latest tech to produce the highest end graphical pretty game, terraria isnt too much more detailed then its original release some 10+ years ago.

the sell merchandise, terraria is not the only income they have

there also console and mobile market, which on it self, is 10 time bigger than PC market

Oh yeah i've just seen the merchandise. But i still think its quite cool since its not pay to win at all
