I would recommend getting it while it's on sale and playing with a guide or walk-through ready.
I generally believe that it's better to play on it's own without any help, but for most people, you'll end up having to bash your head against a wall (metaphorically) for some of the game if you don't have any guide.
The official wiki is a great resource to learn and help smooth out your first experience with the game, it can be found here: https://terraria.wiki.gg/wiki/Terraria_Wiki
If you're still unsure, it never hurts to watch someone else play it.
If you do decide to get it, best of luck and happy hunting.
I would say CS:GO, PUBG and Rust are much worse than Terraria.
Both ways are good by themselves. This is a really rare game our days where multiplayer not only totally does not impose any limits on the gameplay, but on the contrary - it is difficult to even say how to play better - solo or with friends. It has what I call fully fledged multiplayer. Very rare thing. In most modern games (except MMORPGs) there are no fully fledged multiplayer. It's always very limited. But Terraria has it.
