Pumps dupe water
I've just found out (totally accidentally) that it is still possible to dupe water (can't say about other liquids yet). And I mean fully automatically, without any player's involvment. All you have to do is to be AFK in the world.

I am a new player. I bought the game like a month ago. Currently I am playing my very first playthrough in my very first world. I don't rush and experiment a lot. It's a small world, normal difficulty and a player.

All I wanted to do is to conduct some experiments with wiring, switches, timers and so on. I liked the idea to create some automated waterfall using some water pumps and a timer.

So in order to achieve this goal I manually created some small water pool, installed some inlet and outlet pumps and started them using 1/4 second timer. And then I just left the world.

I have some primitive AFK gold farm, so my other player using my old laptop was connected to this world. So pumps have been working for like an hour or so.

After that I reconnected using my main player and found out that my pool is filled to the brim and overflowing over the egde.

Here is my setup:

Some details, I suppose some of them are important but can not say which are coz I am a total noob.

1) I play over LAN. The server is run on my small home Linux server. It's a totally vanilla server, no mods, no nothing.
2) The version is current 1.4.4.9.
3) Water was overflowing only from the left side of the pool. I can say for sure coz the left torch was shut by it, but the right torch was not. I believe the reason for that is as you can see the inlet pumps are concentrated on the right side of the pool so the water level on the right side is a little lower during their work.
4) There are five inlet pumps but only four outlet ones. I suppose this may be important. May be there is a way to increase water production by manipulating the numbers of the inlet and outlet pumps.
5) In this setup the water production is really slow. Half of that pool was filled during approximately an hour. So to flood the entire world you'll need a lot of such setups.

I also googled that this exploit was fixed:

Well, it looks like it's not completely fixed.

I recall water could still be duped after the "fix" but honey and lava not so much anymore.

And given the effort required i prefer the Liquid bombs and then later Infinite Buckets over duping now.

Especially Liquid Bombs if i want to fill up a large area with liquid very quickly. And they aren't hard to amass. Once you fish up one you are set for the rest of the game as long you leave one of any type in inventory you can buy more from the Demo guy. They are fairly cheap too.

I am not sure if it's cheap enough to flood the entire world. Also you can't do it AFK with Liquid bombs or Bottomless Buckets.

I am definitely going to try it sometime.

For flooding entire world i would just use TEdit instead :awkward: to save time and sanity

Nah, why do I play the game by not playing the game and using editors instead? Weird imo.

No, I'd like to do it "the natural way". I also would like to try and progress in such flooded world and see what will happen.

And I want to witness the flooding process personally. Wouldn't it be fun?

Project on such insane scale like flooding the entire world is more "breaking the game" / "pushing the game's limit" rather than normally playing the game. Especially since you are using unintentional exploits to achieve it.

So yea i would use tools instead that produce same result but make the process 100 times less painful.

Work smart not hard as they say ^^ but to each his own.

Oh something i also forgot about are the Liquid Rockets which are like Liquid bombs but can be fired from missile launcher.

That could also be fun and slightly faster alternative for flooding the entire world than using pump dupe exploit. It would still take a bit tho.

I built a large pump station and easily flooded the world. It's many hours, but not that many, and I didn't even need to leave the game sitting idle. I also did it after the liquids "fix". It takes a bit of care, but some water tank designs still work quite well, and the new bucket/ sponge tools really speed up construction.

T-edit just ruins a perfectly handcrafted map. No respect unless you built it by hand!

Well, I can't call myself an experienced gamer of sandboxes. I've never played Minecraft and so on. But it looks pretty obvious for me that sandbox games are meant for that.

Have you ever heard of term "a lag machine" for example? Let's create huge waterfalls along the length of the Terraria's world and we shall see how game's engine will handle it.

Don't you ever forget that Terraria is not only a survival action-adventure game. It is also a very powerful sandbox game. Why not use it to the limit?

I can see a lot of children on this forum 12-14 years old. I guess it explains why people here constantly forget this important fact. Well, I am not a child, I am almost 40. I will play Terraria's adventure. Of course. But also I am gonna try to build something huge and sophisticated. Coz why the hell not? :)

I used to have that kind of patience but as my age progressed so have my patience dwindled to bother doing such large projects. I do still love sandbox games i just don't go "big" anymore in these.

Like some of these people i seen making real life sized Pyramids of Lava on Minecraft servers or making a to scale Panchaea in middle of the Ocean.

Well, I surely can understand this.
