No matter how many tiers of progression or bosses they add the final loot is always going to be pointless in practicality because there's nothing new and stronger to fight after. There has to be a final boss at some point and there has to be neat rewards because it is the final boss. If they add something after moon lord for example then that boss is just going to drop items with the same issue, unless they and yet ANOTHER boss after that, but then you just keep arriving at the same problem.
Would be nice if we had a boss rush mode or something where way the game just throws all the bosses at you endlessly -and they keep getting stronger to the point where you need Zenith, celestial armors etc just to keep going.
It might be more interesting if there was a Bonus difficulty Moonlord to challenge yourself with after you get the best gear, like fighting during an eclipse or blood moon changes the fight completely or something interesting.
But then people would want a reward for doing that and you are back at square one "what do I do with my reward XYZ from beating Eclipse Moonlord , I've already killed the last boss"
So either you get a reward and have nothing to use it on or you get no reward for the boss ? Maybe make the Reward non equipment then ? But people won't like that.
This is just how the game is designed, beat boss get gear for next boss, with mods you will have more bosses to beat but it's just delaying the inevitable , eventually the bosses run out.
You need the best gear in Expert and Master mode in order to survive, because this modes are much more challenging then Classic mode.
Yes, you will very likley win against the easier bosses but bosses like Duke Fishron will become much harder to kill in Expert and Master mode.
In Expert they will drop unique items that make fights easier like the Worm Scarf or they are just fun to use like the Gravity Globe.
In Master mode the bosses will drop the same Treasue Bags with the same loot but they will be even harder to kill (extra challenge but the same equipment).
The only special loot from bosses are Relics and they are only useful as decoration so there is no new OP Gear after and after.
If I create a new Expert world I mostly go for boss runs, so even that is possible.
Just take some boss summoning item with you in the other world and kill one boss after another.
If you get bored or it is still not hard enough there is also a hidden Legendary mode, but you can only enter this mode by using a special world seed with Master mode.

Bosses and enemies have more heath and do more damage, and some of the bosses have different attack patterns. Getfixedboi also has* a secret boss that replaces the mechanical bosses.
- for the worthy - get fixed boi or getfixedboi -
and select Master mode.
It is called Legendary mode.
I´m just saying that it doesn´t come from Legendary mode so no one think it does, that´s all.
