Terraria won't start?

I just bought Terraria a week or so ago and ever since then it hasn't launched once. I click 'play game' in the steam library, it starts to launch and then it crashes without ever opening the game. I had a similar problem with Stardew Valley not too long ago and it ended up being an issue with my graphics card (it somehow got disabled, I just had to turn it back on). I've tried re-installing it, turning my graphics card off and on and restarting my computer. Any suggestions would be helpful, thank you!

Had some issues like that recently.
I've modified the config file in Documents/My Games/Terraria

Set Fullscreen to false and Support4K to false too

My game is launching now and I avoid using fullscreen

So i looked in documents/mygames and it isnt showing Terraria there... when I search it in my computer it brings me the shortcut, maybe it isnt installing in the correct place or something?

Maybe, since you never succefully launch the game, the directory has never been created on your disk

You should try launching the game in windowed mode from your steam library :
right click on Terraria > Properties > In General tab, you have a Launch Options textbox, add this: –windowed -w 1024

Unfortunately it doesn't look like that worked either... it loaded for a while (steam would say running and my profile says "in game: Terraria" but the game never actually launched.

Would be better if you provide a error log, to generate one add this to Launch Options:
-logerrors -logfile
After that launch the Terraria, it doesn't matter if the game works or not, log still should be generated at C:/Users/"YourUserName"/Documents/My Games/Terraria/Logs, look in that location for a log then open it and provide the content of the log file you find.

Hey I had the same problem (I bought the game like last week sill new) I could never fix it but getting tmodloader (free unofficial DLC) it worked.


Tldr: Get tmodloader it's free and use that

"Error Logging Enabled." is all thats on the notepad. i tried opening the game again and got a second error log that says the same thing.

Looks like the problem is not on Terraria side, Steam just refuse to launch the game, one of workaround is just going to the game folder and launching the game using Terraria.exe, you can go there by right clicking Terraria in Steam library and choosing "Browse Local Files".
Alternatively just try to repeatedly launch Terraria through Steam to the moment it just open the game, kinda weird but It works for someone.

Wow. It feels like my computer is gaslighting me. It works when i open it from the files. At this point i dont care about the extra steps and im happy to open the game lol. Thank you so so much for your time i really appreciate it.

Doesn't launch. Going to the .exe also doesn't work.
