Veinminer How to Whitelist Blocks

I am using the terraria Veinminer mod and am trying to whitelist clay, I have my mouse hovered over the block and am pressing the whitelist key that I have set it to,which is currently the "o" key (though I have tried this with multiple keys) When I try to break the block with veinminer on, however, it will not vein mine. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong as I am very confused... Am I supposed to hover over the block in my inventory, while it is placed down, while holding it in my inventory??
