Some one Griefed you That does NOT Naturally happen.
Doesn't matter, as even mods can't be that sneaky so as to know exactly where your house is.
Instead, it sounds like some jerk in your group planted explosives in your house while you guys were digging, and wired it all up to a trapped chest and told the rest of your group he "found" something.
ONLY way a mod would do something like that is if you build at the starting location

As for how your friend did it, The Grand Design item allows for INSANE wire placement and range. He could have hid the explosives in plain sight by painting them or something.
