Why Terraria is Better Than Minecraft.

This has always been a controversial opinion. There is alot of simolarities between the two. However, in my opinion, Terraria out trumps Minecraft in more ways than just one.

DIFFICULTY

There's no doubt out of the two which is harder. Minecraft's simple combat and more linear way of handling damage and health makes it alot easier than the more complex health and damage system of terraria. Also, in terraria, most enemies outpower you. While Minecraft often relies on ganking to increase difficulty.

BOSSES

Minecraft is built around 2 bosses, both of which are entirely optional and never need to be fought. Terraria has 20 bosses, most of which are randomly thrown at you, which can come as a surprise when new players are building a town and suddenly get jumped by a gigantic eyeball. Bosses in terraria deal out alot more damage and have alot more comparable health to the bosses of minecraft. I would actually consider terraria houses some of the hardest bosses in platform gaming, including Duke Fishron and the Twins.

EXPLORATION

Minecraft is infinite, infact it would take months to trek from one end of the playable map to the other, only for your PC to run out of power. Terraria is not infinite, and is infact thousands of times smaller than minecraft, large maps can be trekked across in about 20 minutes. However, it isn't always the case of bigger is better, as with minecraft you can go mining or explore the world for a very long time with no exciting discoveries. Terraria on the other hand has much more common dungeons and enemy spawns. Speaking in a depth level, you can mine down usually 60-100 blocks in minecraft, depending on where you are. In terraria, you can mine down to hell, which is around 2500 blocks down, which obviously puts terraria miles ahead already, as there are much larger cave systems to explore and loot to uncover.

ITEMS

Minecraft houses a collection of 356 items to delve into, which is immediately out whitred by terraria's approximate 3000 items. On the subject of weapons, Minecraft's ultimate weapon, the Diamond Sword, only deals 30% more damage than minecraft's worst sword, the Wooden Sword. With terraria however, you start off with weapons that deal 5-9 damage, while late-game items will deal upwards of 300 damage. This is because of the large array of overpowered monsters that Hardmode introduces, which is unlocked about half way through the game. With exploration rpgs, less is not more.

OVERVIEW

Both Minecraft and Terraria deliver stellar open world gameplay. But Terraria just out does Minecraft, being alot deeper in both world size and gameplay, Terraria also perfectly blends in RPG elements that Minecraft lacks.

Both are different and not really comparable IMO

Terraria is more combat focused while Minecraft is more build focused.

Also Minecraft has mods were Terraria doesn't so it's really different.

Both are good, I enjoy Minecraft w/ mods a lot more than Terraria though, that's just personnal. Terraria is good but once you get end-game there's nothing much to do. You farm for item you don't really need and once you have them then... that's that.

Then again, it's personnal.

He's talking about the vanilla game,not mods.

It's fine to talk about Moddability. Minecraft encourages modding openly, Terraria is somewhat more tedious to mod.

Terraria does have mods, you just need tmodloader. Yes Minecraft has a hell of a lot more mods than Terraria but that's not the point I'm making.

Terraria has lot's of mods, try terraria.org, Thorium is awesome, also it's a bit older but the red cloud/dark souls mod is unreal.

Thanks to both of you for this, you made my day. Didn't knew there was mod for Terraria. I only play Minecraft with mods nowaday, not much of a builder so MC vanilla is pretty limited for me.

Infinity Reloaded and Monster was really what drove me back into Minecraft (so many good mods on there, Applied Energistic and Big Reactor blew my mind)

I personally think terraria is better because in minecraft u can get pretty bored when u have played just five mins.But in terraria u have so much to explore so u dont get bored so easily.

also i do know that this is something that is almost 4 years old, i just wanted to clear the endless debate of "terraria vs minecraft" when really, most minecraft and terraria players like both games, you are the only guys on the planet that think that 1 is better than the other

I played minecra 1 year ago in me wii u
and its ded only mods and hubs keep it goin'
but terra is till alive (ref to Portal 2 and portal gun)
and mods only add good stuff dont make a new game.
