Beetle Scale Mail or Beetle Shell?

Which is better, which do you prefer, and why?
Scale Mail being the offensive version, Shell being Defensive.

Scale mail if you're confident about your dodging and shell if you aren't or you want to just tank hits. I personally go with shell, it makes the fights longer but ensures my survivability more.
