Marble Tower Thing
Normally i build a floating wooden box as my base but this time i decided to try make something that doesnt look terrible. I think i succeeded in making something that doesn't look horrible but only just... Wanted to see what others though of it.

Make it less square with a hammer...

That'd most likely result in lots of corners of walls sticking out the sides which i think would make it look worse.

If I may...
Structurally this tower is too hollow. Try filling in some of the roof and making walls thicker in places. That bottleneck between the 2 spikes is an issue, too.
Imo your house is too pointed. The sides of the roof could use a trim, and the spikes could do with less of a curve (perhaps flatten them out into a deck or balcony?).
Try adding windows and use different blocks instead of just mono-marble.
Once you get more practice in and figure out your personal style, I recommend you start exploring paints. One of the biggest walls people hit is that they feel they cant use blocks because of their natural color. Yknow those red and blue dynasty roofs? Those can be black, or yellow, or whatever color you want. Wallpaper and wood beams are nice too (I recently saw a shot with wood beams painted red to look like curtains, and they worked surprisingly well).

Building is sortof a painful art. You can draw and theorize all you want but you really wont improve without actually building.

Edit: this post isnt meant to bash or insult your work, just offering advice. You did fairly well for your first time stepping 'out of your box'.

On the hammer thing, maybe try making the walls thicker. The foreground walls, not the background walls. That way, using the hammer would make it looker nicer, and without that annoying background issue.

Don't worry about offending me. 1) Its generally very difficult to offend me. 2) I knew that the building although better than a box there are still many ways to improve it 3) Your suggestions to improve it are all great points I hadn't even considered paint as i've never used it before 4) sorta linking to point 3 here you didnt just go "oh your build sucks", since this wouldn't help me improve it.

This may help improve a basic box and making it into more of a house however this doesn't really help me improve my build.

Good job on branching out in your design elements. I agree with others that if you thicken the outer walls that will let you hammer edges for a more fluid design.

And I agree with others that your height to width ratio seems skewed as it gets wider as you go up. I'd suggest you widen your initial base, and perhaps switch the tiers so the larger one is below the smaller one.
And a suggestion on the points, put a little bit of walling on the interior
outside next to the blocks to creat the sense of dept with foreground/background. Later when you have the mechanic you can also do inactive block instead so you can hammer to smooth lines with a sene of foreground and background.

One trick if you are afriad of thick blocks creating shadow is create the Gemspark Blocks and turn them into walling. You can place them behind thick bands of blocks to backlight them.
Additionally if you run the game on color lighting, you can also inflict a color effect without colored torches depending on the color gemspark wall. And Gemspark block even if you paint them another color to blend in with other things will still create a colored lighting effect. If you run white lighting then different colors have different brightness instead of colors and you can chose according to strength of brightness. So you have a magical color or lighting in the area.

As stated above also paints can do amazing things if you learn to look at the texture of the block, and then play with paints to see how they are affected.
After they introduced the negative paint, on wood it took a frozen effect which caused me to remodel my pirate ship into a frozen ship. I've also used materials I would never use otherwise like the Pipe Wall paper, I painted it and used it as lattice in a oriental inspired build.
I use slime banners as swag curtains all the time. And shells on top of the block holding banner curtains to act as ruffle at the top of the curtain.

Sometimes I need light in a room but dont want the source obvious I find mushroom candles great because you can paint them to blend in with soo many things, they dont have a flame effect and produce gentle light. I'm camoflauged them into so many things and builds.
Another trick to get light into a surface(this doesnt work underground/cavern) build without light sources is using wooden fences for walling. Several of them are completely solid but the game still permits light in as if it was a window so when I do stairwells I often make my center post the stairwell circles made with fence to keep the center of the stairwell from being dark or needing alot of light sources.

Hope sharing some of my tricks was helpful to you and that you enjoy your building project. :)
