Theory about the Eye of Cthulhu
In update 1.3. we got the Moon Lord as an end game boss and with it, an unbeatable creature known as the TRUE Eye of Cthulhu. This raises the question, if the true Eye of Cthulhu is the real one then what is the Pre-Hardmode Eye of Cthulhu that we have all been fighting upon creating a new world and character? Well fear no more for I have figured it out! The Eye of Cthulhu is just an oversized Wandering Eye. How it got so big, I have no idea. Maybe it just ate a lot of cake.
You might ask: How would a Hardmode enemy become a Pre-Hardmode Boss? Well, perhaps by using a Suspicious Looking Eye, you are releasing only one spirit of Light & Darkness. Once, the Wall of Flesh is defeated, all of these Spirits are unleashed. The same could go for Skeletron, The Eater of Worlds and The Brain of Cthulhu. Each being a spirit of Light & Darkness that has been released by releasing the Old Man of his curse and breaking a Shadow Orb/Crimson Heart.

That brings up a thought, demon eyes retreat during the day probably because the sun hurts their eyes. (But yet they go to the sky?)

You can still see the sun in space.

WAIT. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE... It's not a Wandering Eye... ITS A BLUE SLIME. ITS A BLUE SLIME. WE HAVE FIGURED IT OUT GUYS.

Hmm... Perhaps by using a suspicious looking eye, you are releasing only one spirit of Light & Darkness. Once, the Wall of Flesh is defeated, all of these Spirits are unleashed.

Well, on a comparative scale. Space is a lot darker than morning.

They leave during day, and return at night. Night is basically just...space...so yeah.

Ok apologize, as someone said few posts:

It's alright, I'm sure that he didn't mean everyone; It's nice enough that he replied to my comment. :>

Also thanks anyways.

No, I didn't mean everyone. I mainly meant every comment that has this in it: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I guess. An Amalgam (if that's the word) of spirits gets released in the form of a huge eye.

Wandering Eyes also do this. If the Eye of Cthulhu is indeed a Wandering Eye, it would make sense that you can only summon him at night.

It's times like these when Google Dictionary is my best friend. Let's see... Amalgam: A mixture or blend. Makes sense.

Since we all semi-agree on it being a un-captured Spirit of Light and/or Dark or being unleased when using the summon item I think that maybe the way it grew to massive proportions was that it may have been empowered by the unleashed spirit or something like that.

I like that. However, I'm still leaning toward it eating too much cake. ;)
