Impossible to capture statue-spawned critters

Since today's update, I'm unable to capture critters generated through a statue, was this intented?

Anyone else having these issues?

I can't see how this is a good change... :(

I assume they removed this mechanic because it broke the economy.

Can you really "break" the economy of a single player game though?
I mean there are external tools to make massive changes to a world, and they remove an in-game source of income of all things...?
I don't like this change :(
