Fast travel methods?

I found a pretty sick cavern that's quite a distance from my home base. Is there a way to fast travel or teleport?

Or make a rail road and travel like that, only difference would be that teleporting is instant, but you can stop anywhere you want on a rail road.

Cosmic Car Keys work wonders. The UFO flies vertically at roughly 41 mph and it is really easy to get. The Blessed Apple (unicorn mount) is super fast too. If you did what Xyphy suggested and build a sky highway, you can get anywhere pretty fast. A builder potion, tool belt, and architect's gizmo belt (i think that's what it's called) will help you build it very fast. I'd suggest using platforms, not solid blocks. This way you can pass through the bridge if you need too, allowing you to stop anywhere. Granite is really easy to get and can be made into platforms, so it's something to consider.

If you are still in early game a rail track would probably be easiest/fastest, since most of the suggestions above are post mech hardmode bosses.
Railing does not require blocks under it. So you can make a mid air track, just hop on the rails with the your cart and lay the track down. I find about 11-13mph a fine cruising speed for track placing while riding the rail. And then later you can cruise about 50mph on it.

This is a good piece of advice. I agree with it. I'm not sure if the builder potions help with rail placement, but they are certaintly a good way to speed up block placement. Just food for thought.

if you really needed to get there fast, you could use a hoik, they look really fast. you can make them as soon as you have a hammer

...But they take an hour to do. And it's almost pointless, you can use mounts, which are practically free, or rails, which you can place while on them.
