Pylons not being sold?
I'm not sure if something went wrong, but I moved my merchant and the fox lady into two houses in the Forest, yet neither of them is selling the pylon? They both say their happy and the forest is their preferred biome, so whats wrong?

Don't know, my merchant sells it and I have him and the Guide there.

Unless you've already tried it, to my understanding from the patch notes you need at least 3 NPCs in houses near each other to form a town before you can buy a pylon.

Thanks, I thought you needed only 2

I read that too but I only have the Merchant and Guide in mine and he still sells it.

Weird. I wonder why?

You only need 2 NPCs to get them to sell it (got 4 pylons myself, I have obtained some with only 2 people) though I don't know if it's every NPC that has a shop interface that sells them or specific ones.

Think they also need to like the biome and maybe not dislike any of the other NPCs they are with. Not sure on that one though.

Travelling Merchant maybe? Could have brought it up to 3 while he was there.

Just a guess.

They seem to dislike when theres too many NPCs in the same area now and it might affect what they sell. I wanted to make a wizard's tower and have had to move residents so they'll say they are happy. Then they can even dislike the biome they are in so its pretty complex. I wish the game would just outright tell you in the housing inspection tool rather than making me juggle and guess..

All NPCs with a shopping interface sell the Pylons.
To obtain the Pylon the NPC has to be living in a biome they want to live in with NPCs they like and far away from NPCs they dislike. (Like the Arms Dealer hating living near the Demolitionist, but loving to live with the Nurse.)
And I'm not sure if you even need 2 NPCs to have them sell it. Demolitionist afterall has to live alone if you want to max his happiness.

Hi! I have the Merchant, Nurse and the Guide living in the forest, in the same big wooden house, right at the starting point, everyone should be happy, but he doesn't sell the forest pylon. (I remember he had it earlier but I didn't have the money to buy it) Anyone has any idea? There are no other NPC's near, no travelling merchant. I already have the jungle and the desert pylons so it is kinda interesting. And I got the desert pylon from the arms dealer even though he is living with the demolitionist (which he hates). :steamfacepalm:
I've built my storage/crafting base in the forest town from gray bricks but I assume it doesn't change the biome.

the merchant is happiest in his own home, try moving him into his own home in the forest and he should sell it, if not that, the zooologist sells it for sure

Seems like they want to encourage many small homes? Or is it just by distance? I'd rather make a mansion or a castle than a town. I don't like the empty space..

# of NPCs doesn't matter, it's purely based on happiness, for homing purposes it seems you can count them as seperate homes if they far enough away (double doors seem to have the same effect)
Halfshell May 18, 2020 @ 2:24am
If double doors works I'd expect that to get patched tbh, I'd rather be safe and just build a space inbetween, like a dining room or smthn.

Noob question: in game, how do you know who likes who and where they prefer to live?

I haven't started the new game yet and would like to go in blind-ish...
