Enemies teleporting around (Multiplayer)
Before anyone states the obvious, Internet connection's fine.
We switched around who's hosting etc etc.

The enemies just literally teleport around, but not as in they lag around, they genuinly even teleport their hitbox, I can hit an enemy infront of me and he'll just end up being a good 20 blocks away from the point where I hit him.
(Even the host sees the enemies teleport around)

This has been insanely frustrating in Pre-Hardmode already and even more so now that we're in Hardmode.

If anyone has any suggestions as to how to fix this (or any idea why it's happening) please tell me, cuz right now this is pretty hard to enjoy.

(I have considered that it might be due to the Steam servers but since I have 0 clue about ♥♥♥♥ like that I'm still in the dark)

happens to me too, and my internet is decent-good.

the game use a very small amount of internet, even a 1mb internet should run it perfectly fine, the issue is something else..... heck even 128kb of internet should run a 2 player game may be a bug with the patch, tho i did not try multiplayer yet.

i don't know a solution to this problem, but i know a workaround that may work as long as all the players have a perfect game speed/framerate of 60...

host a server in the server client instead, and change the npcstream config to 0 (disable server npc stream, the server will just says where the npc did spawn, the clients make the movments instead since the mobs follow simple math rules (no random stuff), if all players are running at the same game speed it will be synced almost 98% of the time properly.

its not the ideal solution because if you game frezze for 2 seconds, all the mobs will be 2 seconds behind in u game instead of being "Streamed" in the correct proper position but..... its definetly better than the mess you guys describe.

to do this go to the game folder, open the serverconfig.txt change the npcstream setting, and click on, startterrariaserver.bat open you world and the game will try to not npc stream to the clients, if all players run the game at 60 fps it may make a more playable experience... (but still not ideal)

also make sure to remove the ##### from the #npcstream=60, the # means the server ignore that command... so put it like >> npcstream=0

the server will just teleport the enemy if he hits you on the server then no more corrections then.

feel free to try more slower npc stream options too but i would recommend trying with it disabled first to see if it feels better.... then if its all working well maybe try a npc stream of 10 seconds or so so it don't try to correct desync so frequent....

So after reading quite a bit I came to the conclusion that is has to be Steam's integrated Multiplayer, me and my friends will try using Hamachi later and I'll post whether or not the lag improved once we tried it.

Im lagging extremely much but my friends arent lagging at all, im talking to them through Discord no lag and steam hosting. They dont lag at all while i get like 20 sec delays/desyncs

only got the lagg now when i or another player goes in new/unexlored areas/ goes in another biome

After some playing using Hamachi I can tell you that it kind of fixes it? After a while I (The host) started getting some FPS issues but overall a lot more playable...

Doesn't change the fact that mastermode is a total ♥♥♥♥♥ tho

I can confirm the same exact behavior using a setup and configuration that is identical to what is used for other (much more taxing) games, with no issues.

Enemies will go through periods of intermittent (but incredibly annoying) rubberbanding and teleporting around and all over the place, behavior reported by every player on the server.

Perhaps just as annoying, we've encountered situations where time will reverse by 2 hours or more as well. As an example, we were waiting for a boss spawn and someone with a gold watch was counting down--but also, you could see the sun revert back in time as well, but suddenly the whole server "reverted" back 2+ hours at the same time for each player. The players remained where they were, but the whole time just reverted back. This seems to be common around the same time we experience teleporting mobs.

There must be a perfect npcstream value that stops teleporting enemies and also gives the players some headroom if they ever drop below 60 fps (like when changing biomes for the first time (since game startup) or during fast paced master mode boss fights. If anyone has found the perfect value please explain it here! Also, which is better at preventing teleporting enemies, Hamachi or server client (terrariaserver.exe)?

Hamachi has worked wonders for me, but the host might have some slight fps issues. Not sure how to fix that sadly

Yep i get the same, i have a feeling it's a problem with 1.4, be cause 1.3 was smooth as butter for me.
Floatingemerald May 20, 2020 @ 7:52am
