So Summoner is still worthless
So far he only got:

Two new "hope for good RNG" pre-hardmode staves
One new hardmode staff
And some armor overhaul

He can't craft staves early-game, and not before fighting any bosses, his only chance is praying for that sweet 0,000something% drop, he still got no pre-hardmode armor (other than defeating Queen bee, and even then, she's a boss), and now that Reaver Shark pickaxe can no longer mine Hellstone...

Well, he's worthless. You might as well delete him like Thrower and merge his class bonuses into some Mage sets. He's just as useless and not worth playing. Unless you really want to test your luck and patience.

Summoner was always useless. Should've been just dissected between the other three. Like ranger summons, melee summons and mage sumons with corresponding damage type
Yes, but 1.3 was released in, what, 2015? Whatever, the latest before 1.4, version 1.3.5.3, on April 25, 2017. And in three years, with over 1000 new items added, they couldn't think of at least one pre-hardmode summoner armor set? Not even the wood one?

I've been playing a summoner playthrough and whenever I do in my experience they are basically any class until you reach hardmode so it all depends on how strictly you decide to follow using only summoner weapons... I can't see beating any boss with the bird nest and a whip so other weapons seem pretty good early game.

To be honest feeling sad they only added whip and some weapon and armor

I thought theyre gonna add a summon and targetting system with your summon weapon
1) recall your minion all or one to be standing right in your spot (to fix minion stuck) with a mana
2) summon all or some of your summoned minion in one spot for a hefty mana but requiering
3) and targeting some spot with a bit mana and 0,5 sec time to apply so some enemies can be hit if youre using slow minion
4) also 1% to 7% damage reduction weapon reforge so weapon staff used by people
5) bonus 5% minion damage if you wield the summon weapon minion

its just sad they only get a little appreciation

Let's be fair, all pre-HM classes didn't have much choice for armor.
Melee: Shadow and Molten
Ranged: Necro
Mage: Meteor, Jungle and gem sets
Summoner: Bee
Thrower(rest in peace): Ninja, Fossil
Now for weapons, you are correct. The summoners had even less options than throwers. Also, the devs sadly focused too much on hardmode

But it was doable, before the devs decided to nerf the reaver shark pickaxe and make the imp staff unobtainable before fighting queen bee. Now you have no choice but to use other weapons now.

The only real hope now for a pre hardmode summoner build is that 4 bat staff shown in the spoilers. Hopefully it's pre hard mode and drops off a bat or something, AND has good damage.

And I just found out the bat staff is hardmode. Good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ job relogic. You made a already struggling class even worse by not bothering to give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about prehardmode progression. You could have at least made the slime staff craftable. "Summoner has gotten buffed" my ass.

Well, you can create lava pool traps and fish during a bloodmoon. If you fish up a Zombie Merman, they have a chance to drop the Vampire Frog summon weapon. Slightly less tedious than slime statue farming, maybe?

Yeah, but from what I've seen of it there's no way that thing is going to be able to kill queen bee on it's own.

It's probably not 100% true, but based on the new final sword and how it's crafted I believe some of the new balance is based off Calamity. If it was more based on Thorium, which was already made to be balanced with vanilla v1.3 anyways, I'm sure that summoner wouldn't be as much of a mess.

I mean seriously, Thorium did early-game summoner better than Calamity did. Calamity makes you farm for shards for the armor, and now gives you a kinda worthless drone summon. Thorium on the other hand, has a set obtainable from as small as a single living wood tree, and a unique summon that gets buffed from said armor.

That's just me ranting at this point, but overall I'm EXTREMELY disappointed after the multiple-year wait for v1.4. I might as well go back to playing v1.1.2 and finish The Story of Red Cloud at this point.

I agree that summoner won't be able to kill queen bee with just the minion, but isn't the point of summoner summoned items to do lots of damage while the player still does damage. If you are playing in a solo world chances are you will have a different class armor set before you take on queen bee, so just use that armor's weapons while also having your minion.

I've always had the idea that summons should have their own HP values, melee summons would take damage all the time, but they would have far, FAR more health compared to ranged ones.
Then mana would actually play some role in the Summoner class, aswell as weapon reforges affecting your re-summon speed.
Hell, Summoner is the new Thrower. This class has no pre-hardmode accessories, and even Hardmode leaves a lot to be desired.
It's just another way to gimp yourself, Summoner weapons are just there to help you alongside Melee or Ranged builds. Cast once and forget.

Ok ok How would you have made this Update, what new stuff would you have brought in the game. The new features and items in 1.4 you can`t even think of 20 things that would be the same or better
