Well, I'm happy for you if this means your speedrun is now in the running for the world record.

Otherwise, I don't think you quite "get" speedruns. Even if I do wish there were more low glitch ones to browse, breaking a game in half is kind of the point.

So the point of speedruns is to use as many glitches and exploits in the game as one can find? I never new this. Good to know. Breaking the game in half, whatever that means to you is the point? I thought the point to speedruns is to get to the end as fast as possible with what the game gives you. Using the games possibilites in a smart way. Not exploiting its faulty code. Which is cheap.

theres diffrent type of speedruns

look at supermario 64 its filled with game brakeing bugs

but then theres speedruns that are ♥♥♥♥ like "glitchless speedrun" where if your caught doing 1 glitch it cannot be accepted (intentionall or not)

so directly speeking glitches are allowed in speedruns and kinda is the point to brake the game as much as possible

or speedruns where its about makeing the quickest decisions possible to beat something as fast as possible

also while some item dupe glitches dont other games like super mario 64 take perfect timeing and mastering to actually preform a speedrun

so depends on the glitches there doing that depends on how much skill is needed

also you cant stop players from brakeing the game on a solo world like singleplayer in any game feel free to do whatever you want cause it dosnt affect other players

Either way, I'll be over there, taking 57 hours before I remember "Oh yeah, I haven't even killed skeletron yet have I?"

Isn't the current WR holder already a no major glitches run?

Have you ever seen a portal speed run? They skip entire levels by fazing through walls lol

There are many different types of speed runs, ones with glitches, ones with specific restrictions placed on the user or those that are pure. But they're all valid ways to speedrun a game. Think of it like weight classes in sports, someone who is a world champion lightweight boxer isn't any less of a boxer than a heavyweight champion. You know what I mean?

So a world record speedrun of terraria with glitches might be faster than one without, but they're both world records in their respective classes.

Real talk, Honestly my main issue with glitches in speedruns is never the use of them itself. It's when people label their speedruns "glitchless" and it's still "Megaman used magnet beam to skip entire sections of level"

Sometimes you do just want to see a 'natural' playthrough, but lots of games are just too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ long to do that even at peak superhuman efficiency.

God forbid the OP discover what a Tool Assisted Speedrun is.

Plus I've also been burnt out over the years by so many people who only want cheap internet cred basically sabotaging game development because of mindsets like that.

"Hey, so I noticed for launch Subnautica disables cheevos if you use the console?"
"YES! You deserve it because you're a cheater! In fact the devs should just disable the console entirely!!!!!"
"I used it to spawn a working fire extinguisher, because launch has a brand new 'intro sequences kills you due to floating unusable fire extingisher' and I didn't want to sit through worldgen again."
"...So, what's your point? I love starting the whole game over due to bugs because I'm a REAL gamer!"
"Yeah about that, apparently there are still some people no-clipping to their death through the rocket launch victory cutscene before the 'beat the game' cheevo pops off. Why were they even using the ironman mode in this game infamous for instant kill sea creatures spawning indoors?"

Hundreds of hours of bug feedback for any given game still tends to get hijacked by people desperate for cheap gamer cred. It's so numbing.

TAS speedruns are incredible, always a fun watch to see a videogame be pushed to its absolute limit.

I wonder if we can still duplicate liquids. That's the only duplication glitch i used and im gonna really miss my elaborate mixing stations when its gone :(
DaBa May 15, 2020 @ 4:22am
"no more duplication exploit" Ahahahahaha! If only I had a dollar for every single time they said that.

Actually, I would probably only have around 20$ or so. But yeah, it's only matter of time until a new one is found. And, guess what? Hard duping is still a thing :mhwhappy:

There are different categories of speed runs.

However, we will probably see some interesting Journey Mode speedruns.

Dude, journey mode speed runs are going to be sick. So many possibilities and categories, the routing is going to be really fun.

what should also be noted is that the pickaxe shark thing has been nerfed from 100% to 59% power so its not as beastly as a skip it once was

speedrunners might just rollback to pre-1.4 if they dont like not being able to duplicate due to how essential it was for some categories
Kaputtschino May 15, 2020 @ 9:15am
maybe they find a new one then
