Will 1.4 be 64 bit
currently terraria is 32 bit, this means that players on the latest mac os cant play, at all, so im really hopeing that 1.4 will be 64 bit so that players like me can play does anyone know if this is the case

Edit: To any mac users
Turns out, despiting being labeled by steam as not working, terraria works perfectly fine on mac, if you are having troubles with it i would recomend reverifiying the game files

the thing is you shouldn't be under mac os at all... go get yourself a pc either windows or linux there is no reason to be under mac os specially for gaming purposes.

Besides all the mac issues.... You will be able to assign more memory to Terraria and also use more mods in the same time...

Macs in 2020 :mhwno:. Why do you choose to torture yourself?

Sell that crap right now and buy a normal computer.

That's what you get for using a Mac
Terraria works perfectly fine on 64 bit Windows lol

It's not elitism its common sense.
Why buy a vastly overpriced Mac compared to a PC that is both inferior and barely supports half the games available on PC ?

Then whine about how companies don't want to support its OS when releasing games.
I will never understand this...

It's as dumb as demanding RDR 2 for Windows 98

As much as I am outright against elitism in a general, I have to agree that a Mac just isn't going to cut it for gaming. Apple insists on their machines being 100% proprietary, making the OS difficult to program for in large part because of how it handles its system files; the fact that a 64 bit machine can't run 32 bit software even though most software is still 32 bit is a good example of Mac's issues with games in general.

A long time ago Macs used to be better for graphic design because of how the older models handled anti-aliasing, namely in how text was rendered. It was also the case that there were few viruses which targeted Mac systems because of (again) their unique file structure. These days, neither one of those is the case, and Macs are sold overpriced on brand recognition alone.

If you must use a Mac to play your games, there really is no way around emulating a virtual Windows machine. Very doable, especially if your computer is powerful enough to run the latest MacOS, though you will need to buy a Windows OS key from Microsoft.

The Mac has supported 64-bit programs since 2009. The fact that "most" software is still written in 32-bit is not true, at least on Mac. The fact that "most" software on Windows is still written in 32-bit is mostly laziness on the part of developers, considering that Windows 7 shipped in 2009 and was installed as 64-bit on most new computers.

Just because the OS is different does not mean it is "difficult to program for," nor is there some snowflake way it handles system files. Yes, you cannot run a Windows executable directly on Mac. By the same token, there are plenty of options available to developers who want their Windows programs or games to run on Mac. Mac Game Store exclusively sells Mac games. Aspyr is a publisher that was built entirely on developing for Mac first or porting games to Mac.

No, the reason that viruses don't target Macs (still -- look it up) is because of the relatively low user base compared to Windows. As Macs have become more popular, the percentage of malicious software targeting Mac has increased somewhat, but there are still no viruses.

There are trojans and other malware, but those are not viruses. Viruses have the ability to spread themselves. Trojans and other malware do something malicious on your system but cannot replicate themselves to other computers.

Wikipedia has different categories for viruses for different operating systems, and while there were viruses for Classic Mac OS (meaning versions 9.x and prior), primarily spread via security problems in Word and Excel, there is no category for macOS, which reflects the fact there are no known viruses for it.

There are lots of companies that will sell you antivirus for Mac, but at best they are being disingenuous about the need for it, and at worst are causing system problems. (It is well-known within the Mac community that antivirus for Mac just cause system instability because of how deeply they are ingrained within the operating system. And to show you just how interested the antivirus companies are in selling you software you don't need, there is also antivirus software for iOS. Due to the security siloing architecture of iOS, it is literally impossible for antivirus software to scan anything outside of its own directory, so it is entirely useless. They will still tell you that you need it, though.) Malware removal is a different topic, and malware removal is built into the system.

I currently have 722 games in my library, 555 of which run on Mac. For the rest, I can reboot directly into Windows. What exactly do I need to emulate?

And for the record, Terraria does run on Mac just fine. It will not run on macOS Catalina because that OS does not support 32-bit applications, but I don't expect Relogic to convert Terraria to 64-bit at this stage because they have just released essentially the last major update to a game that is almost a decade old. Should it have been written in 64-bit from the get-go? Maybe, maybe not. When it was first released, 64-bit OSes weren't as widely installed. Should they have done it sometime in the intervening years? Yes, probably, but the ROI may not have been there, especially as there is no penalty to them not doing so on the Windows side.

i wanted to mention this now, because i only figured this out after making this post.
despite the fact that terrarria is listed as 32 bit and it pops up with the whole "macos catalina cant run this" message, when you actualy start up the game it will work

That's very good to hear. I stand corrected. I'm still on Mojave so I haven't been able to try it for myself yet.

I somehow missed the beginning of this earlier.

Apple uses off-the-shelf Intel CPUs and AMD GPUs in every single computer they sell. What, precisely, is proprietary about that? Since the rest of your post is riddled with garbage nonsense and factual errors, I feel like this may come as a surprise -- those are the same parts that are in the majority of Windows PCs.

I'd suggest you try editing your post again, because as it stands, you are calling PCs inferior and saying that PCs only support half the games available on PC. Obviously, I agree about one point -- PCs are inferior to Macs. But the rest of the sentence, about Macs being "vastly overpriced" and PCs only supporting half the games that PC supports, don't make any sense.

The only one here whining is you about your epeen being challenged, due to somebody daring to use an OS that isn't called Windows. Why are you even in this thread if your only response is to be a douchebag?
Substance_545 17 mai. 2020 às 0:08
theres really no point in arguing over one OS over another OS, its just a matter of opinon theres no "best" os, they each are good in their own ways
