Phishing popups in steam browser while playing Terraria?
When I open the steam overlay browser and go to the terraria wiki (gamepedia, not wikia), I will sometimes get a popup from the browser telling my to call a number to fix my pc or something. There's no close button, and if I click okay to get rid of the thing it plays an audio version of whatever the phishing message was. I have to kill the steam process to close out the overlay and stop the annoyance, which leads to Terraria ceasing to function.

I don't know if this is relevant to Terraria or not, but the problem is either on my system (which malwarebytes ruled out), the steam web browser, terraria.gamepedia.com, or the game itself.

What do you guys think? I don't believe my system is at risk, it's just very annoying.

Yeah but malwarebytes didn't find anything, so I don't think my pc got infected.

Just use the Official terraria wiki, there won't be any phising popups there.

Try using Spybot - Search and Destroy. If you have both of them, theres really no chance for viruses to be on your system. Like the odds are like really low.

I used to have this problem. If you have AVAST! it will scan these files as unnessescary background apps. You have to do one of their scans, not sure if it was smart sca or another one, and then delete these files one by one. It's tedious, but it gets rid of them. If the ads say "Ads by DNS Unlocker", then god help you, because you got a trojan, and that condom done rip.

I thought terraria.gamepedia.com was the official wiki.

Hmm. The gamepedia wiki says it's the official wiki. I doubt it's the website that causes the problem, anyway. I'm testing gamepedia in a normal chrome window with adblock disabled just to see.

I didn't really bother to read past the first few lines. I'd think if I had a trojan I would be seeing more than just a popup in the steam browser.

It will most likely not stop it. The condom has broken, and the trojan is loose. Abandon all hope. (I am speaking form experience, you need to say whether or not it says anything about DNS Unlocker, because if you don't stop it soon, your computer will be fried)

I ran malwarebytes, nothing. Windows Defender didn't pick up anything. I'm not eliminating the possibility of a virus but I think we can shelf the doomsday prophecy for the time being.

It's in STEAM?!?! Dude, listen to me. This virus, if it is DNS Unlocker, destroyed my last pc. It will literally FLOOD your memory unit with viruses and ruin your life, it isone of the nastiest viruses out there. Look around the borders of the ad. If it says so look for the following files in your PC

dnscontreras.exe
DNSUNLOCKER

If you find them, destroy them entirely, because it will decimate your hardware.

The chances are super low. I think both programs would notice the virus and would pick it up.

I'm kinda paranoid about viruses doe.
