No, they can't spread on mud blocks

are you sure? someone told me that the jungle will get corrupted too and that's all mud. so the jungle is safe?

corruption can corrupt mud, but hallow cannot unless u use clentaminatir. so if the hallow is near the shrooms' dont worry. if corrupt is coming, get ready for mud to turn into dirt -_-

The evil (corruption/crimson) doesn't spread on mud blocks, instead, it transforms the mud blocks into dirt blocks and then corrupts them, which makes the process of cleaning the corruption a bit more difficult. You'll be able to clean it, but the blocks will stay dirt blocks, not mud blocks, so you won't get your biome back, unless you manually put mud blocks back where they were before they got transformed into dirt blocks.

If you're looking for something to block the spreading with I'd suggest x4 block wide clay :dirtblock:

so i have my houses and npc's in the middle of my world. to the right of me is the Hallow creeping up and to the left is the Corruption. the Corruption is pretty far away and is blocked by a hellevator but there is also some Corruption and Hallow deep in the ground beneath my houses.
